In my dream, my son is far ahead of me, just around the corner, I think. I can’t see him, but I hope he is there. I move faster, my eyes scanning the horizon, ravenous for any glimpse of his small silhouette as proof he is not lost. A French man. Cool guy. We used to finish a bottle of Whiskey every day together. A French woman. She was his ex-girlfriend. She was so drunk one time that she fell asleep on the tiny highway divider outside our home.
